Literacy Centers

What are Literacy Centers?
 
Literacy Centers are made up of three different components:
1. Mini-Lesson- short, focused lesson (about 10 min)
2. ApplicationChildren move to various centers where they can practice and apply what they have learned. 
3. Closure (Share-Time)- Good student practices are highlighted and students are reminded of what they have been learning.
What are the Weekly Centers?
  • Alphabet Center

  • Phonics Center

  • Words Center

  • Writing Center

  • Reading Center

Why are Literacy Centers Important?
  • They provide children with the opportunity to practice what they have learned.

  • They provide for opportunities for meaningful, active learning.

  • They allow children to work at their own pace & level.

  • They provide opportunities for enrichment and remediation.

  • They use concrete, real objects that are relevant to a child’s life.

  • They encourage children to become problem solvers and independent learners.
